 Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread for Samsung GALAXY W Now Available at Vodafone Australia

Vodafone Australia customers who purchased the popular Galaxy S II smartphone through the carrier’s official channels have yet to receive their promised Android 4.0 ICS update.

However, that should not take too long as Vodafone already confirmed a few days ago that the update had been approved by the carrier and would soon be pushed to all Samsung Galaxy S II devices.

Vodafone Australia is currently one of the busiest carriers when it comes to software upgrades. The operator pushes new updates for the devices in its portfolio every week.

Vodafone Australia recently announced the immediate availability of Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread update for Samsung Galaxy W.

The update is now available for download OTA (over the air) or through Samsung Kies desktop software. Keep in mind that while the file size is only 17MB when downloaded OTA (over the air), those who prefer to install it via Kies desktop software will have to download no less than 620MB.

Obviously, the software update is available free of charge. Moreover, customers who choose to download it over 3G should know that their data will not be deducted from their monthly allowance.

In order to manually check for Android 2.3.6 update simply head over to Settings / About Phone / Software Update / Check for Update. Those who prefer to update through Kies should make sure they have the latest version installed on their PC.

According to Vodafone, the following changes will be added with Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread:

- Introduction of Google Books;
- New iconography;
- New screen unlock animation;
- Security enhancements;
- Improved SMS stability.
