Details about a possible Optimus Black launch through U.S. Cellular emerged last month, but it looks like the smartphone will be offered by other carriers in the United States as well.
The phone has recently received FCC's (Federal Communications Commission) approval under three different codenames: LS855, AS855 and VM855.
For those who are not familiar with these names, the LS, AS and VM code correspond to several carriers in the United States such as Sprint, Alltel and Virgin Mobile, respectively.
On related news, the Optimus Black appeared in the Tera-WURFL handset database as model US855, which points to a U.S. Cellular release in the next weeks.
Introduced earlier this year at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas, the Optimus Black promises to provide customers with a longer battery time and exceptional energy efficiency.
As LG states, the Optimus Black is one of the brightest smartphones available on market and comes with a large 4.0-inch multi-touch screen display, which is based on LG's latest NOVA technology.
Its screen is capable of emitting 700 nits (candela per square meter) and it features 16 million colors support, 480 x 800 pixels resolution, as well as accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.
Hardware-wise, LG Optimus Black is equipped with a Texas Instruments 3630 processor clocked at 1GHz speed.
LG Optimus Black runs Google's Android 2.2 Froyo platform, along with LG's Optimus 2.0 and Gesture 2.0 user-friendly interfaces.
Other highlights of the phone include HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA function, Wi-Fi Direct-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR support, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.
The phone is powered by a standard 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery that is rated by the manufacturer for up to 375 hours of standby or up to 6 hours of talk time.
