Free App Download - AxcessPoint Mail & Web App Hits iPhone

Iridium is extending its AxcessPoint Wi-Fi hotspot product to the iPhone with a free app and $200 worth of sat-phone gear. Those of you who travel to remote places around the globe ~~probably already have one~~ should read on.

Previously available for Blackberry customers, as well as Mac and Windows laptop users, the Iridium AxcessPoint Wi-Fi hotspot is now available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Thanks to a new free app, the hardware offered by Iridium now communicates with Apple gear. The airtime is rather expensive, though (as you already guessed, I’m sure).

Commenting on their new release, Joel Thompson, vice president, product management, Iridium, said: "Iridium AxcessPoint Mail & Web now provides a reliable email and Internet connection anywhere in the world for the more than 250 million Apple iOS device users."

More and more we see enterprise, government and NGO organizations requiring connectivity for their employees regardless of their location on the planet," added Thompson.

The solution connects your iDevice to the web using an Iridium Extreme(TM) or Iridium 9555 satellite phone.

Iridium AxcessPoint Mail & Web has built-in firewall protection to block extraneous Internet traffic, speeding up connection times, and allowing offline viewing and composition of emails.

Configuration and filtering of large data files and attachments is also enabled, as well as mid-file restart of attachment transfers.

The Iridium AxcessPoint Wi-Fi hotspot accessory and the iOS app for Iridium AxcessPoint Mail & Web requires that users sign up for an Iridium 9555 or Iridium Extreme satellite phone with a valid subscription.
