The New iPad Now Has 3G Issues, iOS 5.2 May Be Required Soon

The New iPad Now Has 3G Issues, iOS 5.2 May Be Required Soon
With each passing week since the debut of the new iPad, customers report a new widespread problem with the third-generation tablet computer. This week it’s the cellular connectivity.

Just as Apple is acknowledging a WiFi problem with the new iPad, as well as offering refunds to Australian customers for misleading advertising of the tablet’s wireless capabilities down under, the Cupertino giant now has yet another problem on its hands.

Apparently not tied to any specific territory, the 3G connection problem has been experienced by customers in Austria, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Poland, the U.K., Singapore, Spain and Italy, according to AppleInsider.

A customer identified as “NewForce” on Apple’s official forums starts a thread with his own theory that “there's a serious 3G cellular data connection problem in the new iPad 3/4G WiFi,” caused either by a bug in iOS 5.1 or a problem with the Qualcomm radio chipset.

“Hopefully Apple next iOS 5.2 release really solve this big problem for all the users, worldwide. Until then, my advice to all potential new iPad owner especially most of the countries still using 3G network, to be seriously take this issue into consideration before forking out your money,” he writes.

Another customer says “I logged on this morning for the very same reason. I am now on my second New IPad, the first one was rendered useless after the Verizon people tried to activate it. I have an the original iPad with 3G and the new iPad from Verizon. I thought it was a Verizon issue, as I can have them side by side and not get 3G on the new one. Sometimes it is showing full bars, and the LTE icon, and yet if I try to get on the net Safari says it has not data connection available.”

User Red Tees says he likes the new iPad, “but I am afraid at this point I will be taking this one back for a refund, as a $900 paper weight is grossly overrated!”

Apple, your move.

  1. The principal problem with the new iPad 3 is the poor wifi range. I spent quite a bit of time researching, for a solution, with no luck. All of the methods I found didn't work for me. In the end though, I found a couple of reviews of Pong Research 's cases, that convinced me to give it a try. This case is built with an antenna in between layers of the back cover, which redirects and boosts the power of the signal and increases the range of the wifi antenna on the iPad. After getting one, I couldn't be happier with my new toy!
