NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access Now Available

The latest version of NeoOffice is available to those who support development on the suite

NeoOffice is a full-featured set of office applications developed especially for Mac OS X. The suite includes word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing and database programs. Most Microsoft Office 2007 Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are supported, as are Excel VBA Macros.

The developers at NeoOffice.org have announced that early access to the latest version of NeoOffice 3.0 has commenced. To download the new release, users must login to the NeoOffice Early Access Program system to confirm that they are members / subscribers of the NeoOffice Early Access Program. They will be able to login by entering the e-mail address that they gave PayPal when they made their NeoOffice donations.

“Since 2003, NeoOffice has been the leading open source office software created and supported by Mac users specifically for Mac OS X, and is used by over half a million people worldwide,” the team at NeoOffice.org says. “NeoOffice is funded solely by the time and money donated by NeoOffice users like yourself. Without donations from our users, NeoOffice would not exist. Your donations have a huge impact on what we are able to provide our users.”

NeoOffice is based on the OpenOffice.org office suite, integrating native Mac features. One of the most stable office suites for Mac OS X, NeoOffice is adapted to the unique needs of Mac users, by taking the features in Sun Microsystems' office suite and adding Mac-specific tweaks to them. The software requires that you have at least 512 MB of memory.

Before downloading version 3.0 of NeoOffice, the development team urges users to note that “NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access is not a production release, and will likely have many undiscovered bugs.” As such, if you are having second thoughts, it's probably best just to use / continue using one of the stable versions of the software.
