Download - Clean Up Windows Live Messenger 9.0 (2009) Corrupted Cache

To clear error 8100030

A corrupted cache can stop users from signing into Windows Live Messenger 9.0 (2009) with their Live ID accounts. According to Microsoft, the issue is not limited to just the latest iteration of its instant messaging client, as older versions of the software are also affected by the same problem.
“Some users seem to be getting an error 8100030d when they try signing into Windows Live Messenger, in some cases after they have upgraded to the latest version. This error can be caused if the cache files get corrupted and the solution is to simply delete the cache,” Sameer Halai, Windows Live Messenger program manager, revealed.

The Redmond company presented a variety of solutions, each tailored to specific releases of the IM client, in accordance with the operating system the software was installed on. Users of MSN Messenger running on Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP or Windows 2000 will have to open a command prompt window and write the following commands, making sure to press Enter after each one: “1. cd\ 2. cd %appdata%\microsoft 3. cd "msn messenger" 4. del /s listcache.dat.”

When it comes down to Windows Live Messenger running on top of XP, users will need to get the operating system to Show hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer; Tools menu, Folder Options; the View tab; Advanced settings list, under Hidden Files and Folders.

“Delete the Contacts Cache folder. To do so, right-click Start, and then click Explore to open the Windows Explorer window. In the Windows Explorer window, locate the folders below and delete all the files and folders inside them: C:\Documents and Settings\ Your Windows logon name \Contacts\ Your Messenger e-mail address and C:\Documents and Settings\ Your Windows logon name \Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\ Your Messenger email address,” Microsoft explained.

For Windows Live Messenger on Windows Vista, users will need to perform a similar process as for Windows XP. “Click Start and then click Explore to open Windows Explorer. On the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options. Click the View tab. In the Advanced settings list, select Show hidden files and folders under Hidden Files and Folders. Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box. Click OK to close the Folder Options window,” the company stated. Once the hidden files are visible, users will need to remove Contacts Cache folder in C:\Users\ Your Windows logon name \Contacts\ Your Messenger e-mail address and C:\Users\ Your Windows logon name \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\ Your Messenger e-mail address.
