Pidgin is also one of the most used instant messengers.It is the best messenger i have ever used except for it’s lack of support for voice chat and video chat.It has support for virtually all the major IM networks, including; AIM, Bonjour, Facebook (XMPP), Gadu Gadu, Google Talk, GroupWise, ICQ, IRC, MSN, MXit, MySpaceIM, Napster, QQ, SILC, SIMPLE, SNPP, Sametime, XMPP, Yahoo, Yahoo Japan and Zephyr.It is simple and fast, and block unwanted spam messages that usually comes from crappy yahoo.

You can install it by going to Ubuntu Software Center and search for Pidgin instant messenger
.Then you can install it from there.

When you will use Pidgin for first time it will ask for the account information, you give it and start chatting.
