Ubuntu 12.10 a.k.a. Quantal Quetzal
Mark Shuttleworth, father of the popular Ubuntu operating system, proudly announced a few miutes ago, April 23rd, the name and the goals for the next version of Ubuntu OS.
Yes, we are talking about Ubuntu 12.10, dubbed Quantal Quetzal and scheduled for release this year on October 18th.
"And so the stage is set for a decision: I give you the Quantal Quetzal, soon to be dressed in tessellated technicolour, now open for toolchains, kernels and other pressing preparatory packages." - said Mark Shuttleworth on his blog.
For Ubuntu 12.10, the developers will focus their efforts on quality! The whole interface of Ubuntu will be revamped, starting with the font, icons and theme, and continuing with the default apps. Oh, and it looks like they're finally dumping the brown!
"No, the quintessential stories of Q will be all about style on the client, with a refresh of our theme and typography, a start on new iconography and perhaps even a new form factor taking flight. So brown is out and something colourful and light is called for."
What's a Quetzal? Well, according to Wikipedia it is a trikingly colored bird from the trogon family and can be found in forests and woodlands, especially in humid highlands.
