As you know, OpenOffice.org acquisition by Oracle has been, to say the least, unfortunate. The problems have not ended, and this led to a number of programmers to migrate from OpenOffice.org to LibreOffice, the alternative to the original project. That is sooo similar. I will not dwell on the conflict between the developers, but if you want, I will teach to install Ubuntu and Arch for your Ubuntu OS.
IMPORTANT: The installation of LibreOffice PARTNERS WITH REMOVING OPENOFFICE.ORG.
For both cases, open a terminal and type
Installation on Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10
sudo apt-get purge openoffice*.*
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libreoffice
sudo apt-get install libreoffice-l10n-es
The latter will leave you in Spanish if you need it
To improve compatibility with Gnome:
sudo apt-get install libreoffice-gnomeTo improve compatibility with KDE:
sudo apt-get install libreoffice-kde
Ubuntu Installation and oneiric Ocelot Natty Narwhal
In Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10 LibreOffice is already installed by default, so you have to do is upgrade to the latest version. This is accomplished by opening a terminal and typing:sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo apt-get update & & sudo apt-get upgrade
Arch Installation
Open a terminal and type pacman -S libreoffice
pacman -S libreoffice-es
pacman -S libreoffice-dictionaries
It will ask if you want to uninstall OpenOffice.org too.
You can access it from Applications / Office:
